Toona sinensis is a tall arbor tree native to China. Toona sinensis is a perennial deciduous tree, the trees can be up to 10 meters high. It is warm and suitable for cultivation in areas with an average temperature of 8-10 °C. The cold resistance increases with the increase of the age of the seedlings.

Basically, it can be divided into two categories: purple toon and green toon. Purple toon generally has a relatively open crown, bark gray-brown, spores purple-brown, and the first buds are purple-red, shiny, strong fragrance, less fiber, and more oily; green toon, the crown is erect, the bark is green or green-brown, Slightly less scented and less oily.

Toona sinensis seeds have a short storage life and lose their germination ability after one year of conventional storage. Therefore, ripe fruits are picked at the end of September, and the fruits are dried in the shade (not exposed to the sun). After the peels are dried and the husks are cracked, the seeds are freed of impurities, and the membrane wings are retained (otherwise, the germination ability will be seriously affected), and they are bagged and stored in a ventilated and dry room. There are two disinfection methods, namely hot water scalding disinfection and potassium permanganate solution soaking disinfection.

Hot water disinfection method: Put the seeds into bags, soak them in warm water at 45-48°C for 10 minutes, then scald the seeds with hot water at 55°C for 15 minutes, immediately take them out and soak them in cold water for 6-8 hours.

Potassium permanganate solution disinfection method: first soak the seeds with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution for 30 minutes, then rinse them with clean water, and then soak the seeds with cold water for 6 to 8 hours. In the process of soaking seeds after the above disinfection treatment, 3000 times of Aiduoshou solution can be added, which can not only increase the height, plant weight, and yield of Toona sinensis sprouts, but also enable the sprouts to be harvested 1-2 days earlier. For germination by chemical treatment, it can be soaked in 1% formalin solution for 20 minutes, rinsed repeatedly with clean water, and then soaked in warm water for a day and night. Or directly soak in 0.5% potassium permanganate solution for one day and night for disinfection. It can also be treated with growth hormones such as brassin 481 or naphthalene acetic acid and gibberellin, which can significantly promote germination and seedling growth. For example, 0.1% Brassica 481 soluble powder is used, each bag is 20 kg in water, after soaking the seeds for 8 to 12 hours, rinse with water to drain the water, and then directly sow or germinate.
