Researchers have discovered the world's largest known plant off the coast of Western Australia. The plant is "old" or more than 4500 years old, covering 180 kilometers.
This plant was once thought to be part of the huge seagrass meadow in the local shallow water area, but through genetic testing, researchers found that it is actually a single species of Bosnian seagrass. The relevant research results have been published in the proceedings of the Royal Society B. according to the researchers, this is the largest known plant individual on the earth by area. Sinclair, a researcher at the University of Western Australia, confirmed this view to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. She said, "after carefully reviewing the data, we were very surprised that it turned out to be the same plant."
Researchers investigating in the local area said that they did not expect to find the world's largest plants before they went there. They conservatively estimated that the plant has a history of at least 4500 years. "The reason why it can keep growing is that it is basically undisturbed. It is a beautiful world heritage site."
